NewXbox 360 dismantled

I think we have confirmation this thing is no quieter than the current models. The optical drive has Phillips and Lite-On on the label.

I used to use Lite-On drives and they never lasted long and they made a racket if I read anything above 2x speed. Let's hope my conceptions are unfounded.

To be fair, that was either your particular drive or that particular model. I've used plenty of lite-on drives and had no problems.
That's not to say that this one will be quiet though. Have to wait and see for that.

The main question we should be asking about the new slim 360 drives is whether they still cause disc scratching if you bump or move the console...

I'm not even going to bother to ask the question. They hadn't fixed it up until the newest ones, they aren't going to fix it now.

Nik, while I understand the disk scratching can be annoying let us also remember that the Xbox is a console and is meant to be stationary.

If the disk gets scratched by external triggers such as heavy impact or movement, it is the fault of the consumer, not Microsoft's.

Also, the reports about this are that conflicting I lump it with cell phone radition: there is nothing conclusing nor easily repeatible thus is not an issue worth one attention.

The Xbox360 is the ONLY console I know of that has such a sensitive issue when it comes to vibrations causing discs to get severely ruined... There has never been such a major issue with the other consoles in the past, mainly because the 360 causes so much damage to discs when there is slight movements/vibrations...

It's a MS issue because they can easily fix this problem (by putting padding on the two pointy bits in the drives that scratches the disc whenever it is vibrated), yet they won't...

I've just read the new Slim units are still scratching discs when moved...

Mate, the guy moved the machine suddenly and more than 12 inches off the table.

With forces like that, this is bound to happen to *ANY* unit without a shock device (like in the old portable CD players).

I still say I could pick up just about any cd/dvd device in my house and shake it and not get anwhere near the amount of damage (ie, it would still be playable) that just turning the xbox from upright to flat would cause.

.....Please don't go and try anyway. I am assuming that by saying 'could' you have not tried yet.

While I will admit I am wrong when presented with the evidence, it would be expensive if it turned out I was right.

Yeah, I don't trust my equipment enough to actually try it. Although if I had some already dead cds I might consider it.

I wouldn't either. If there is scratching, it can only mean that shavings of the disk are coming off.

Those shavings have to go somewhere, and I rather it not in the lense or the motor.

Megaman Universe looks like it's going to be an official game in the style of Mario Crossover.
Here are two trailers for it
