Ok Leon here,(now that I?m Vice President I?ve decided to get off my lazy ass)
I?ve established this topic so we can see a list of what we can/plan on playing during game nights and console nights. This way it?s slightly more organised then last year, where nights turned in to us talking for several hours before going home (though it was fun). The main reason for this is so people will have something to look forwards to. I?m thinking votes under this topic to decide what people would like to play would be also a good idea. also if you have anything you would new you would like to try, then post it under here as well so the people can research it to see if they're are interested I intend to put a list of all the games we have for Game Night on this topic as soon as possible, but I need to get in to contact with Dean to work out what we have. Note to the newbie?s (hopefully you?re still interested in coming) and people who just generally don?t know Once a list is compiled if you have no idea what a game is, then leave a question under this topic and we?ll give a brief description so you to can have a say in what you would like to do. Also this will allow me and Dean to work out if we need to prepare for Role play encase we plan on doing large role play groups. -------------------- Hmm... So, you like anime. Maybe when you grow up you can be an anime

I'll replace this reply with a full list of games once we have compiled it. that way people don't have to look through several pages of replys to find a list of what we have
Dean mentioned being interested in playing some magic, i also plan on doing a large group role play more details of that on the Friday: Games Night Role Play topic. if anyone has any ideas what they would like to do, please post it here -------------------- Hmm... So, you like anime. Maybe when you grow up you can be an anime

Next gaming night, I'd like to have a game (or 2 if possible) of Starcraft.

Bought it on the weekend. Looks quite good. Haven't had a chance to play it yet though.

For those that are interested in playing this on the next Gaming night, here are some good references to look at before we start playing so you can get an idea of how it works.
Condenced version of the rules, with some pictures. 13 pages in word, as opposed to 45 pages in the rules booklet. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/file/info/28528 Flow chart of a turn, as well as a flowchart for combat. Plenty of info on each step as well. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/file/info/26703 -------------------- Some twenty years ago, the gods put down their feet, So firmly in to the ground that no man of sword nor pen, could ever change the rules upon which The very fundament of metal was made. --The Book of Heavy Metal Hold your head up high, Raise your fist up in the air Play metal, Louder than Hell! --Die for Metal |

Couldn't be bothered starting something up for Starcraft since the last few posts were for it anyway.
Here is a primer for new players to Starcraft. Gives some strategy hints as well as ideas on what to look out for. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/371705 -------------------- Some twenty years ago, the gods put down their feet, So firmly in to the ground that no man of sword nor pen, could ever change the rules upon which The very fundament of metal was made. --The Book of Heavy Metal Hold your head up high, Raise your fist up in the air Play metal, Louder than Hell! --Die for Metal |

Would definitely want to try Betrayal at house on haunted hill, Runebound (if it can be played in 6hrs? is it a long game, I'm not sure, I may be thinking of something else, but would still like to try runebound) and Settlers with Cities and Knights.
I would also like to see if any of the expansions to Carcassonne make it more enjoyable to me, but would prefer to play the above games. -------------------- Some twenty years ago, the gods put down their feet, So firmly in to the ground that no man of sword nor pen, could ever change the rules upon which The very fundament of metal was made. --The Book of Heavy Metal Hold your head up high, Raise your fist up in the air Play metal, Louder than Hell! --Die for Metal |

Runebound is pretty long, but you can reduce the XP per level to make it faster. Still probably around 3 or 4 hours though.
Betrayal is pretty quick, only about an hour per game. Lots of fun though and every game is different once the betrayal starts which is cool. Annoyingly none of my friends like Settlers, so I've never even played Cities and Knights, it'd be good to have some people to play with. When are board game nights usually? You'll have to tell me what you'd like me to bring along |

3-4 hours is good.
Starcraft is usually 3-6 hours depending on how many new people are playing as well as if there are any slow people. Well there are a few people who have played settlers, although not many games. I'm certainly up for cities and knights. Boardgame nights are (at the moment) every 4 weeks or whenever we feel like. Next year (start of the semester in march) they will be every 3 weeks. I think next friday will be anime, then it'll be whatever we decide to do, probably either video or board games.

Been looking at some Dominion variants, such as playing with 5-6 players (6 really needs another set like one of the two expansions), choosing which cards to play with and ways to mix up play.
I think the easiest way to play with 5 people is to add 2 kingdom decks (playing with 12 instead of 10) and you need to get rid of 4 stacks (instead of 3, or the provinces) Another way to play with 5 (or 6) is to increase the number of provinces and make the end conditions deplete the provinces or 4 stacks. This is harder to do with just the base set. There are a few selection methods for choosing what kingdom cards are used and I think next time we play we'll use one. 1. Everyone gets a selection of cards and choose 1 and pass the rest on (similar to a booster draft) 2. Everyone gets a selection of cards and choose 1, discard 1 then pass the rest on. 3. Lay out all cards and people take turns picking what they want to add to the game. I'm sure we could come up with more. Mixing up play is more for when we've played a heap of games. One I'm interested in trying is choose the 10 kingdom cards as normal (or see above) then shuffle them all and deal them out to 10 piles. This way you don't have all the cards available all the time. You can only pick what is on top.

24 to 92, worst game I've ever played. Its great! Definitely bringing it along.
Have only played with the 6 bonus cards (just normal stage cards), Evil Machinations (cards players get to put in each round) and Rough Roads (cards that get flipped up each round that do nasty things) First game played with 2 Rough Roads cards a round. Didn't do too bad. Second game played with Evil Machinations and 1 Rough Roads card a round. See above score for the fun had there.
