In the old site, we had a anime library. Is there still talk about bringing it into the new site?

There hasn't been talk about it since my crazy idea of expanding the phpBB code base to support our needs.

I think Nick is working on it, as well as the news?s updates site and a few other things

patient people... patient!

I'm working on the new site, which won't be launched until 2007. Some of the ideas are on paper, and some are in my head at the moment.

There will be an anime page. Due to people being lazy with updating the library page from the old site, I've decided to design it as an anime page, not a library list. At the moment I'm finding it hard to figure out how to incorporate a user-review section. Dean mentioned a great idea about having a club reviewer to place reviews for some of the animes, which I'm swinging towards at the moment.

I'm also using phpMyAdmin web interface for all the database stuff, due to Navicat not allowing me to connect to the dargh mysql server (the program I'm using at home). It's gonna be a while before I get the hang of it.

Just a small idea. Is it possible to enforce limitations on posts on given threads? In the case of the my old idea of a designated board with a thread for each anime, is it possible to only allow a club member to have only one post on the thread?

I rather make the forum seperate from the website (don't want to start up another debate now..). I'm happy with my dargh admin idea, which I have in place at the moment for the mainsite.. It's still a bit rusty (version 0.1 at the moment), but it works. I hope to improve and expand it as I develop the website further.

Wakarimusta (Understood).

I'll stop posting these ideas.

Yeah one review per person sounds good... so long as they can be edited I can see no probs...

Stops those mystery spammers/hackers from coming back and lecturing me on how hackers are like robin hood... laugh.gif

Oh yeah... an authorisation key for new users? is something like that possible so users have to contact admin and be verified as OK (ie we know them, or they're on the club register?) That should stop those damn hackers from coming back?

Just an idea...

Oh yeah... we really need a hentai library added... laugh.gif

I though I might bring this up again as I have a few more skills in web services now.

Would anyone mind if I try making a Library web site in .Net?

The library system is fine the way it is right now.. I've got a decent anime library setup with a pretty cool genre system at the moment... I've also managed to integrate some of the forum's resources to the anime review database, so users can use their forum login information to place/edit/delete reviews to anime in the database.

You could create Library website to develop your skills in .Net and show an alternate way of doing the library database if you wish..

I was thinking of something bigger. Like bringing back the review system (I can't seem to find it in the new system) and adding a web based borrowing system. By that, I mean members could place holds on desired anime and can later borrow them out.

The review system is in place. As noted above.
As for finding it, I managed to find it easily enough. Just make sure you are logged in (either here or on the website, both are the same thing) go to the anime section, choose your anime and click 'add review'

Borrowing could probably be added with minimum of fuss as well.

The anime review system is up and running. You might need to refresh the cookies (just logout and login to the forum) to get it working.

I have been thinking of ideas for an online borrowing system for a while now.. as far back as the days of the old forum. I even implemented a database setup with the first anime database I created to cater for the individual discs. However, after discussions with a few people from the club at the time, we ended up deciding that it wasn't such a good idea to implement, and so I left it..

I'm doing two Java units this semester. Had a look at the assignments for one of the units I'm doing this semester. One of the assignments involves creating a video store rental system. I could look at implementing a Java approach for the borrowing system, providing it's secure and has a good backup setup.. but only if the council thinks it's best for the club.

Well, combine that with my idea to print barcodes on the DVDs. Just have to get a cheap barcode scanner off eBay.
Miyazaki
Saga, you and I must think the same. I have some designs laying around and one of the aspects was to use the ISBN on regular DVDs to identify them.

As for the CDs/DVDs of fan-subs, I was thinking of some code to use but I think barcodes could be better.
